Nashville Sea Cadets
Percy Priest Yacht Club recently supported a small boat training
exercise for the US Navy Sea Cadet Corp. When several Cadets participated
in boat training, they had an opportunity to sail on a J/24, an O’Day 23
and the club’s 26’ committee boat.
The cadets were able to assist in sail preparation, jumping mains and
foresails and ultimately taking the helm. There was also a “man overboard”
exercise.
The USNSCC is a Navy supported program for boys and girls from age 9 to
17 to learn about military life. They learn about Navy tradition,
navigation, physical fitness, discipline, close order drill, Honor Guard
and many online courses. They will emerge at whatever age as young
Americans with pride and a sense of purpose.
Deanna Allman, PPYC member, is a Navy veteran and a member of, and an
instructor in, the Nashville Unit. Deanna was the coordinator for getting
PPYC involved in supporting the Sea Cadets.
Special thanks goes to Bill Todd and his J/24, Kenny Cooper and his
O’Day 23, and Bob Ware for driving the club’s committee boat and for
donating their time, instruction and spirit of sailing and boating to the
Cadets.
Please feel free to contact Deanna Allman at 615-631-2509 (cell) or Bob &
Kathy Ware at 615-754-9944 for additional insight.
